The Hospitality Internship

Sodexo at K-State is now accepting applicants for fall internship opportunities working with K-State Athletics.

An internship with Sodexo at Kansas State Athletics will consist of on the job training and live interaction with clientele. In addition to live interaction during events, the successful candidate will also receive bi-weekly classroom training sessions to understand the concepts behind the events we are executing.

Qualified candidates will be assigned and HR partner that they will communicate with on a monthly basis to monitor progress and help get them prepared for entering the workforce after graduation.

Candidates who successfully complete the internship will be assigned a salaried job (if they so desire) as a resource manager and given two months to search for and secure a salaried role within the company.

At the close of the internship the successful candidate will have gained full understanding of multiple management principles and operational controls/methods. These include but are not limited to:

-Hospitality Management

This internship will cover all aspects of hospitality management. It will offer live event management opportunity and give the candidate extensive knowledge of the inner workings of food and beverage in sports

- Marketing

-Market Our operation through social media

-Serve as community liaison,

-Organize volunteer events,

-Connect with local businesses,

-Organize media events and connect with local media (radio/TV),

-Create and edit quarterly newsletter

-Create video content for documentaries

-Coordinate and assist with advertisement efforts

-Attend Chamber of Commerce Events

-Interact with clients


-Bi-weekly P&L reviews

-Attend financial meetings with clients

-Learn Sodexo Financial Systems and assist with day-to-day entry

-Purchasing on a large scale

-Coordination with vendors

-Invoicing multiple clients and vendors

-Assist with weekly, monthly, and annual projections

-Cash Control

-Credit Card Reconciliations

-Cost control theories and live practice in the areas of labor% and COS% controls

-Assist with annual budget creation

-Contract creation

-Non-profit coordination

-Inventory Practices

-Human resources practices

This is a unique internship opportunity to work and gain hospitality management experience within the sports and entertainment industry.

This is a paid internship opportunity with the opportunity to grow into a full-time management role.

Position Summary

The Sodexo Intern will perform and train in various responsibilities under their career concentration. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but Sodexo may identify other responsibilities of the position. These responsibilities may differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements.

General Responsibilities:

  • Assists maintenance workers, foodservice employees engaged in cleaning, maintaining, cooking or serving at facilities of commercial, health care, school, residence hall or other establishments.
  • Assists in daily operations.
  • Learns how to operate and maintain equipment on an as-needed basis.
  • Performs day-to-day assignments.
  • Maintains and observes department’s guidelines.
  • May provides feedback on guidelines.
  • May be assigned special projects.
  • May assist in calculating recipes and preparing special formulas.
  • May assist with the checking of patient trays and Feeding Program boxes.
  • May update patient lists/labels on a daily basis.
  • Attends weekly menu group and assists patients in filling out menus.
  • Completes formula inventory as assigned.
  • May be part of a formal Sodexo internship program. Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Complies with all Sodexo HACCP/OSHA and/or local policies and procedures.
  • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.

Working Conditions (may add additional conditions specific to defined work location):

  • Generally in an indoor setting; however, may supervise outside activities and events.
  • Varying schedule to include evenings, holidays, weekends and extended hours as business dictates.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily in a controlled, temperate environment; however, may be exposed to heat/cold during support of outside activities.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
